A freshly designed abominated creature in MAGIN sows terror in the new gameplay trailer

Inspired with Mike Mignola’s work, classic animes, Persona franchise, and, of course, Darkest Dungeon - Magin: The Rat Project Stories is a narrative-driven, adventure RPG with deckbuilding mechanics, turn-based combat, and a disturbing, non-linear plot. Watch the new gameplay trailer featuring a recently added beast - Coweater.

Hide your cattle!

Coweaters - as they call them, roam marshes, fields, and river banks in search of prey. Although their natural food is fish, the expansion of agriculture has made them hunt for cows and other livestock. Growing up to 3 meters tall they were sometimes seen eating a cow in one bite. Even today, after long years of peasants hunting them and destroying their habitats, Coweaters are often decimating livestock herds across all of the Southern Lands. Take a look at this video to see how this creature came to living.

Learn more about Magin: The Rat Project Stories

The gameplay mechanics of Magin fuses an adventure game, based on the exploration of a 2D world and interaction with the environment and characters with a card-based combat system reminiscent of Slay the Spire and other deckbuilding games. The element that combines them is the emotion mechanic, that influences both stats during combat, and the choices you make. An additional point of contact between them is the card collecting system, based on exploration and character decisions.

Magins are mages whose abilities are tied to the flow of the Essence, directed by their emotional state. Because of their powers, they are treated either as dangerous outcasts, or research specimens. Tolen and Elester – Magins, mediums of the Essence are holding few things in common, but they are bound by a fate that neither of them suspects.

Developers aim to tell an engrossing story with difficult decisions to make and multiple endings. They are creating a rich, mysterious world, full of multidimensional characters, and atmospheric locations. A point in history where medieval culture is confronted with the invention of industrial, magic-powered machines.

About The Rat Project

A fully independent team of hard-working developers, trying to bring to life a vision 3 years in the making. Magin has its roots as a community project started by Tomasz “Gimper” Działowy, who aimed to make a game created by gamers for gamers. In June of 2019, the core team decided to quit their jobs in SEGA and Atomic Wolf in order to dedicate themselves to The Rat Project full time. A Kickstarter campaign was launched recently, with a goal of around 200 000 PLN ($50k, £38k), which will fund the development and creation of a full game. A free demo version is currently available on Steam.
