New Zealand indie game takes you back to your childhood.
Wellington, New Zealand, May 2020 – The philosophical mystory exploration game The Life of Frederick Sommer is coming to PC and Mac early next year. The game explores Sommer’s life in a series of flashbacks.
“The game explores the psychology of escapism,” said creator Zakary Kinnaird. “Set in first-person you explore flashbacks of Sommer’s life, relaxing at the summer house, reading by the poolside or hiking in the wilderness. Each vignette reveals how reality has a way of catching up with us.”
“The real is not only what can be reproduced, but that which is already reproduced, the hyper-real" wrote Baudrillard. In video games we often allow extreme escapism without ever commenting on it’s validity, it's an abstraction. It’s not real. Ultimately we can’t stay in the wilderness. You have to come back to your real life.
