New 'Play Anywhere' initiative reinforces Microsoft's cross-platform push

New 'Play Anywhere' initiative reinforces Microsoft's cross-platform push

June 13, 2016 | By Alex Wawro

Microsoft is amping up its cross-platform push with "Play Anywhere," a new initiative announced during its E3 press event today that encompasses a number of games which will be playable on both Xbox and Windows 10.

What's notable here is that Microsoft is following through and streamlining what it did with Remedy's Quantum Break earlier this year: games that are "Play Anywhere" will be available to play on both Windows 10 and Xbox for anyone who buys them once.

Moreover, Play Anywhere games will tap the Xbox network to cross-populate things like saved games and achievements across both versions. The current list of games that will support Play Anywhere include Xbox frontrunners like Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3, though more may yet be announced before E3 is up.
