EA announces indie partnership program

June 12, 2016 | By Bryant Francis

At today's EA Play event in Los Angeles, EA announced a new program called EA Originals, an indie publishing arm that will support small developers making original games.

An EA spokesman at the event said that the program was created after the success of working with Coldwood Studios on Unravel, and that EA will seek out multiple developers to support them through development and publishing.

EA also said EA Originals would seek to deliver all profits on these games back to the original developers (presumably after its fixed costs are covered), an unusual deal for the titanic publishing company.

The first studio EA will partner with is Swedish developer Zoink games, who showed off a trailer for their new game Fe, a fantasy forest exploration game.

EA Originals is a change of course for how EA works with third-party studios--previously, the publishing label EA Partners helped ship several larger games with studios like Insomniac and Crytek, though this newer initiative seems aimed at much smaller developers.

You can read more about the EA originals program right here.
