Newsbrief: During E3 2012, Sony announced "Wonderbooks," a new service that lies a bit outside the realm of games, blending reading with augmented reality.

This new service offers virtual stories and activities that users can interact with using their PlayStation Move controllers. As part of this initiative, Sony has partnered with Harry Potter author J.K Rowling to release an interactive story dubbed Book of Spells.

In this virtual book, players use their Move controllers as a magic wand as they read stories and learn more about the Harry Potter universe. The Wonderbooks service is scheduled to launch this holiday, and Sony says the J.K. Rowling "book" is just one of several in the works.

Gamasutra is reporting live from E3 all week long.
